Garden Palace

Very unpleasant experience. The ones staying here are my son and his father. However, the two of them only lasted about half an hour there, because from the start they came to see tall grass in the yard, a dimly lit lobby, a gloomy hallway, an elevator that felt even more dark and damp. Coming out of the elevator on the 8th floor, the two of them were greeted by a hallway whose wallpaper was damp and dirty here and there. Their room was at the far end and to get there they passed through rooms whose doors were half open but uninhabited. Right at the door of the room before their room, there was cotton bud trash lying in front of the door. Entering the room, my child sat on the bed and his father sat on the white cloth sofa with a yellow color. It was around 5pm. My husband looked out the window at dusk, then suddenly his ears felt like someone was blowing. Curious and afraid, my husband googled the name of the hotel and finally decided to leave the hotel as soon as possible. My husband's mistake was not complaining to the hotel and not returning the key because he was so scared. We asked for a full refund and not just a refund of 1 night out of the 2 nights that had been booked, but finally after negotiations with the hotel it was agreed that they would refund 50% for the first night and 100% for the second night, even though my husband and children had not even slept in the hotel bed. .

Nothing like the online ads. It was untidy, dark & depressing. Lifts inefficient. Rooms in need of an upgrade. Staff unhelpful. Breakfast uneatable (& undrinkable with poor coffee & Tang orange juice) . I arrived there late after a long flight, having pre-paid - otherwise I would have gone elsewhere. No redeeming features.

Cons: 1. Hotel is old, outdated and in dire need of total renovation. 2. Lobby area look dark and gloomy 3. The room we booked was Superior room, we got room on 6th floor but it was dirty, wallpapers were peeled here and there, water intrusion stain here and there on the ceiling, room has bad odor. So we asked another room and moved to 9th floor. The room was slightly better but not much. 4. HVAC system is ancient and not really cool 5. Pillows are not comfortable and need replacement for sure. 6. Room smell and feel humid, even the bed sheet has humid smell 7. Bathroom is old and has bad odor 8. Hot water not really working well, has to wait 5 minutes before the warm water came out. 9. Slow drain in the shower area 10. Towel has stain 11. Ants in the room Pros: 1. Located by the legendary Zangrandi Ice Cream and across from Alun-alun/Balai Pemuda 2. Walking distance to Plaza Surabaya 3. Staff are friendly and polite, they try their best to please the guest 4. Breakfast is good and has many varieties 5. Fast check in process 6. Good wifi connection 7. Many TV channels including HBO 8. 5 Work Elevator, so you don’t have to wait too long to get to your room
