Hotel Baia Delle Zagare

As an Accor Platinum member with more than 42 nights in luxury properties with Accor this year alone, I have considerable experience with the standards and consistency expected from an international luxury hospitality group. That perspective is particularly relevant after 26 days travelling through Iceland, Scotland, England, Morocco, Egypt and Italy, and staying at a range of luxury properties throughout the journey. Unfortunately, Baia delle Zagare was one of the weakest service experiences of the entire trip. This was not a matter of one disappointing interaction. The shortcomings were repeated across multiple touchpoints throughout the stay. Laundry was not collected as requested. Reception service was inconsistent, with several interactions falling well below the level of courtesy and professionalism expected in a luxury hotel. Dinner service lacked coordination and attentiveness, while beach service demonstrated the same inconsistency. The comparison with the other properties on this journey was particularly revealing. In Morocco and Egypt, we experienced markedly stronger hospitality at luxury hotels where our rates were €1,000 or more per night. Service there was more polished, attentive and proactive, with a much stronger understanding of luxury hospitality. That makes the experience here particularly difficult to understand. We received a higher standard of service in Egypt and Morocco than we did at Baia delle Zagare. Most tellingly, we had four days remaining on our vacation and had been seriously considering extending our stay. We were prepared to secure alternative accommodation at short notice rather than alter our plans. Instead, the service experience became sufficiently disappointing that we chose to leave four days early. There was also a recurring impression among some staff that basic guest requests were an interruption rather than an opportunity to provide hospitality. In a luxury environment, this is not a minor detail. Service attitude is part of the product. For a hotel operating in this segment, luxury should be evident not merely in the offering, but in the execution: consistency, discretion, responsiveness, courtesy, attention to detail and anticipation of guest needs. Those fundamentals were simply not delivered with sufficient consistency during our stay. The result is a significant disconnect between the hotel’s positioning and the experience actually delivered. As an experienced Accor Platinum guest, and having stayed extensively in luxury properties this year, I find Baia delle Zagare far too expensive for its level of service. We left four days early, would not return, and cannot recommend the hotel to travellers whose expectations are aligned with genuine luxury hospitality.

I stayed at the Hotel Baia delle Zagare in Mattinata and it is a truly enchanting place. The property is in a fantastic location, totally immersed in greenery and with gardens manicured down to the smallest detail that provide an atmosphere of pure tranquility. The only flaw unfortunately concerns the dining: the restaurant proved to be mediocre and definitely not up to the high standard of the property. A real shame for an otherwise splendid setting.

The bay is a 10 out of 10, the rooms deserve a 4 out of 5, the restaurant is very "classic", I would have expected a little more creativity given the location.
