Palazzo Viceconte

We stayed as a couple for three nights in July 2026 at the Palazzo Viceconte in Matera. The hotel is undoubtedly something special. You feel more like you are in a historical museum than in a classic hotel. That has its charm, but in places it also seems a bit morbid and dated. Our room was very spacious and the location in the middle of the old town is excellent. Anyone arriving by car should know, however, that the approach is not exactly easy. The breakfast was okay. Some local products were a positive. We found it disappointing, however, that there was no freshly sliced fruit and the entire selection did not meet the standard we would have expected from a hotel of this category. The biggest point of criticism, however, concerns the parking: It was explicitly noted in our voucher that this was included. Nevertheless, the hotel charged an additional 30 euros per day. That is absolutely unacceptable to us and should have been resolved differently on-site. Conclusion: An impressive historic building with a great location and large rooms, but some weaknesses in service and breakfast. Because of the parking situation, we would not come back.

Gorgeous hotel. Highly recommend. Optimal central location.

We stayed two nights in June in a Junior Suite. The room and bathroom were very spacious and comfortable. Parking on site is very convenient, albeit an experience to drive through the old town. The directions provided by the hotel were great. We wished that the WiFi in our room and safe, both listed as amenities, worked. The rooftop bar was closed during our stay but the views on the Sassi from there are fantastic.
