Hotel Antica Repubblica

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Antica Repubblica. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the main plaza, restaurants, shops, the beach, and the ferry terminal. The hotel is compact and feels more like a traditional old-town guesthouse than a conventional hotel. It’s not fancy, but we felt it offered good value for the price and fit well with the character of Amalfi. What really stood out was the service from the manager, Christian. He was friendly, responsive, and helpful from the time we booked the hotel. Before our arrival, he promptly answered our questions and helped arrange transportation from the airport. When we arrived in Amalfi, he personally came to the taxi drop-off point to greet us and help us get settled, which was a thoughtful touch and set the tone for our stay. Breakfast was another pleasant surprise. The two ladies who took care of the breakfast service were very sweet and welcoming each morning. The selection was decent, with a good variety of pastries, fruit, yogurt, meats, cheeses, and coffee. In fact, we thought the quality and variety were better than the complimentary breakfasts we’ve had at many chain hotels in the U.S. It wasn’t elaborate, but it was fresh, enjoyable, and more than enough to start the day. Before booking, we noticed a few older reviews mentioning issues such as dirty towels or slow-draining bathroom fixtures. We did not experience any of those problems during our stay. Our room and bathroom were clean, and everything functioned as expected. While we can only speak to our own experience, it appears that management pays attention to guest feedback and works to address concerns when they arise. One thing to keep in mind is that there are about 20 steps up from the main road to reach the hotel. However, there is also an alternate route from the main plaza through the back lanes with very few steps, which made getting luggage to and from the hotel much easier. One trade-off of staying in such a central location is the noise. We could hear crowds in the surrounding streets until fairly late at night, and there was also some noise from neighboring properties early in the morning. It wasn’t unexpected given that the hotel is right in the heart of Amalfi, but light sleepers may want to keep this in mind. Overall, Hotel Antica Repubblica is a convenient and reasonably priced option for families looking to stay in the heart of Amalfi. The location is hard to beat, and Christian’s hospitality made the experience even better.

The hotel is highly is recommended. Brilliantly located above the bustling Main Street of Amalfi, with terrific double glazing and air conditioning so you are unaffected by the noise. The facilities in the hotel were spot on and the breakfast delightful. The hosts; Christian, Maria and the team provided a warm reception and were always on hand to help and make our stay thoroughly enjoyable.

The manager, Christian, accused us of breaking the toilet seat in the room and threatened to call the police and kick us out of the hotel unless we paid him 250 euros in damages. We did nothing to the toilet seat. We would never disrespect a property we stayed in.
