Hotel Residence

We just returned from spending 4 nights at this hotel and loved everything about it. First, the location can’t be beat. It is literally across the street from all the buses that run along the coast and the ferry terminal is 2 minutes away. It’s across the street from the public beach and they will provide you with beach towels (beware of the little bitey fish in the water.harmless but it’s a shock!). The hotel is also next to the main square in town. From our balcony I could look right and see the square and if I looked left, I could see the water. Breakfast was amazing and served on the terrace overlooking the beach. They brought out a tray of bread and pastries every morning and they also had a menu of items to order. The Amalie breakfast was the best. The rooms were clean and I have to say the bed was so comfortable. It was so good that I had to look up the brand!! The only slight drawback are the walls between rooms is a little thin but we didn’t really have an issue with noisy neighbors other than one evening with a crying child. Finally, there’s a gorgeous rooftop bar that overlooks the city at night. It was off-season so not super crowded but a great way to end your night. I’ll definitely recommend this hotel to anyone I know who’s going to Amalfi.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Residence. We booked a year in advance and I was a bit concerned that there didn’t seem to be many reviews, I needn’t have worried. Flavia and Andreas gave excellent service. We tried most of the restaurants that were recommended by Flavia and they were all excellent. Our room was clean and spacious, with great storage, it had Rituals products, a coffee machine, kettle and mini bar/fridge. The air conditioning and soundproofing worked very well. The balcony was sweet, it is noisy outside but in a buzzy way and it’s a great place to sit and people watch and admire the sea view. The terrace where breakfast was served was lovely. Breakfast was okay, a selection of rolls, cakes and pastries, potted yogurts, fresh orange juice, fruit salad that was the same option all week and scrambled or hard boiled eggs with 3 other options from the menu. I think the option to choose from a buffet would be preferable as there was waste with the pastries and having cereals and yogurts in packets seemed more basic. The location was great and close to the beach and restaurants. We used the hotel as a base and took the ferry to Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Salerno. We used the roof top bar a couple of times for drinks and snacks, it’s a shame it is expensive as we would have used it more due to the gorgeous view. £25 euros for a cocktail, the wine was cheaper but still dearer than in town. Sadly it was only open from 6.30pm as it would have been lovely to relax there during the day. We would return due to the staff and overall atmosphere in the hotel. If you get the chance to dine at Sensi restaurant it is definitely worth it.
