We stayed at the Hermitage Hotel in June, it was part of a tour package and we can honestly say this was the best Hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in quite a few around the world.
The location was excellent, beautiful views across Sorrento and the Bay, far enough away from the hectic busy Sorrento but close enough to be able get there in 20 minutes.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was perfect, the room was fantastic, air conditioning was excellent, the views from the balcony were amazing.
A 5 minute walk and you are in the local town of Sant’ Agata which we spent a lot of our spare time there. Very quiet and peaceful town.
We will definitely be returning here again if we are lucky enough to be visiting this area again.

Fabulous family-run hotel, set in the hillside behind Sorrento, which can be accessed regularly via the hotel’s free shuttle service. A 10 minute walk on a private path behind the hotel gets you to the village of Sant Agata which is a decent size with a supermarket, restaurants and bars.
All of the staff are amazing - a few get regular shout outs and rightly so - but every member of staff will go out of their way for you. As a party of 11, the restaurant staff made sure they always had a table set up for us on an evening. Dinner is a relaxed sit-down affair and you don’t have to rush to get a table. We really enjoyed the ‘calorie free’ dessert trolley. The team were also happy to accommodate a fussy eater with food from their lunch menu. Drinks are very reasonably priced. (If you have leftover wine - I personally don’t know what that is - the team will save your bottle for the next evening.)
Staff were really helpful with organising a trip to Pompei for us and a mini bus (outside of shuttle bus service times) to get 11 of us to the port for a boat trip. With 24hrs notice, they also organised a birthday cake for a special birthday.
Our room (511 top floor) was spacious and very clean. The furniture is solid and has a nice authentic feel to it. There was plenty of storage space in the wardrobe with enough hangars.
The management team keep a close on everything, remember your name and room - this personal touch makes you feel really welcome. Whilst it wasn’t massively busy, they do keep an eye out on towels on sunbeds too to make sure there’s always some available. The team were a lot of fun.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel or stay here again - huge thanks, Jen

I’ve just returned from a weeks stay at The Grand Hermitage (sadly, I didn’t want to leave).
The location was perfect for me. Quiet, peaceful with a stunning view of the Bay and Vesuvius. Sorrento is easily accessible via the shuttle bus (free for hotel guests) and only a 15-20minute journey with again, stunning views all the way there. Shuttle arrives and leaves on time every single day. Booking is required (easy, simple) and journeys are available at specific times, which are provided on check in.
Sant Agata is a short walk via the accessible and beautiful little pathway next to the hotel. It’s a lovely little town with bars, restaurants, shops and the best family run gelateria you’ll find! I personally preferred Sant Agata over Sorrento for its authenticity and real, Italian feel.
Same goes with the hotel itself. It’s chosen to keep its genuine, Italian decor which I found homely and comforting over the clinical feel of some hotels. I settled in and slept amazing from day 1, as it felt like “home.”
I didn’t have a room with a bay view, however I didn’t need one, there’s a stunning view from the pool area and the viewing terrace! It’s amazing to watch the sunset from with a drink. I loved the genuine decor of the rooms, plenty of room, cleaned daily and great shower and bed.
I was half board and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Yoghurt, eggs, bacon, toast, waffles, deli meats and cheeses, pastries, cereals, oats, milk, coffee, teas, fruit. Dinner was to die for every single day I was there! It’s a set menu each night but completely different every night. I never found something I couldn’t eat and I always left satisfied! More so!
The staff are what makes this hotel even more special! All very encouraging, welcoming, positive, attentive, considerate, helpful and generally contented. They create a wonderful atmosphere, where you feel at home, comforted and cared for.
I fell a little ill on my last night so was room bound :-( I didn’t get to say goodbye to anybody or thank you all so thank you to Bond (Pedro). Your work ethic is second to none, and I appreciate you accommodating my poor attempts at Italian!
Tony, welcomed me from my first night, was attentive, always with a smile on his face and again, challenged my Italian speaking skills. Thank you!
The “dessert” member of staff was amazing! He quickly became accustomed to my “sweet tooth” and accommodated for this without me having to ask. Thank you, I have now gained 3kg in cakes (no regrets) ;-)
The manager was always concerned with the contentment of the guests and did regular rounds to greet everybody and get to know his guests. Again, thank you for accommodating my Italian and your genuine care ;-)
I can’t wait to return here! Thank you all so much.
