Terme Mare Blu

Everything was perfect, from the location to the services offered to the entire staff! Highly recommended.

Ischia turned out to be the biggest disappointment of our trip- although not because of the hotel. When booking it was hard to find a hotel that had not just closed for the season. I picked Hotel Mare Blu as it was still open and had a 5 star rating. I also liked that they had a sister hotel with a gym and the website said we could use their facilities. I had read in previous reviews that some guests had issues with mosquitos but since I usually am not prone to bites I discounted that. To get to the hotel from the ferry we needed to take a bus (I'm sure cabs were also an option). The location is good as they are near a historical area with several shops and restaurants. They also are near the Castle which is supposed to be lovely. First problem was that the sister hotel had just closed for the season so no option to use their facilities. Second problem the Castle was closed for the days were were there due to a movie being filmed there (this also closed a portion of the town). I could not figure out how to work the AC and assumed after being told at our last hotel in Capri that the AC is finished for the season that is was off here as well (this was my fault for assuming and not being able to work it). It was cool enough outside so we slept with open windows. I was surprised in the morning to discover i was covered in bites. The hotel helped a lot with that. First someone came up to turn on the AC so we could close the windows. Next the maid and another staff member used a zapper to kill all the mosquitos on the walls. Our next night was much better. However due to lack of options I asked if we could leave one night early staying two nights instead of three. They kindly allowed this with no penalty for the early departure (which we greatly appreciated). I am not sure what gives this hotel a 5 star rating. The facility is older with plain - but clean rooms. There is a small beach across the street which honestly did not look very appealing. There is a very nice indoor thermal pool with was warm, not hot and very nice. I did not go to the outdoor pool as it was too cold for that. I did have a massage in the spa which was very professional and lovely. Breakfast was nice with a lot of options.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Has a private beach just across the road and two pools at the hotel. One pool is open air and the other is covered and heated. Towels are available at the poolside which you can help yourself to. Nice selection at breakfast and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a room without a balcony but did have a sea view and the room was a great size. The room has a small fridge and also a safe
