Hotel Castello Dei Principi

We booked this hotel through Booking.com. We arrived 15h30 and found the hotel locked with no reception. The place was deserted.The external is filthy and washing from the attached dwellings hang over the balconies. The hotel is advertised as waterfront but is situated 13km from the beach. This hotel should be closed and removed from booking websites.

We've stayed there for three nights and it was just amazing. The views you have, the beaches you can reach, it is just a perfect location if you have a car. I also recommend to eat there at least twice if you can, so you can try both the fish and meat variation. The owner is a really nice person and an even better chef and wine connoisseur. The hotel has a rustic charm. I enjoyed staying there and would do it again.

Nestled in the hill's surrounded by olive groves and donkeys for neighbours is a charming historic castello (fortified small castle). Only a few miles west of Paestum and the Roman temples in the small rural village of Cappacio. From the start, we had a warm welcome, the owner can't speak much English but with the help of google translate we worked through the language barrier. Basically nothing was too much trouble for our host and our comfort seemed his main priority. Our room was divine, spacious, light and had a sense of quality with damask bedding. Beautiful views from the balcony to the coast, up into the hills and down along the cobbled streets below. We dined in the restaurant, asking for a simple local produced meal, I am a retired chef so looked forward to trying regional food, our taste buds were given a real treat and left very full! Breakfast was equally of a good quality, with buffalo yogurt, fresh orange juice, pastries and coffee. The owner noticed our interest in architecture and took the time to show us around his sympathetically restored castello. We really didn't want to leave but alas the rest of our Italian tour awaited us. Having booked our stay via Booking.com on a tight budget we were amazed at the quality of our accomodation and fine dining experience, exceptional value for money and we cannot commend them enough on the service provided.
