De La Ville

What a wonderful hotel, it has 4 stars but the staff and aesthetic, particularly in the lobby and gardens deserve 5 stars. At check in the 2 ladies were really helpful and informative. The concierge chap was lovely too and worked long hours but kept smiling. We went to grab a drink outside while they were getting our room ready, what a lovely outside eatery/bar and very reasonably priced food and drinks. We had lunch and then went to our room. The room was 312, very spacious and well equipped, the bed was comfy and air-conditioning brilliant. The only part that could have been better was the bathroom. It was a shower over the bath with an attached metal plug which was irremovable and a bit of a trip/stub hazard. The shower itself had good pressure and the rest of the bathroom was great. The staff - room cleaning - fantastic staff who did a wonderful job and with a turn down service. The restaurant/bar - the barman was great and personable. The restaurant staff - Samuele and his team were superb! They were so impeccably turned out and attentive, a real credit to the hotel. I told Samuele we've been to hotels all over the world, 4 and 5 stars and Hotel de la Ville stood out brilliantly on every level, particularly the service 5 star! We were here 4 nights and dined at the hotel for three of them, something we've never done before. I recommend and would return.

I enjoyed the hotel for the most part. The staff were very friendly. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was good and was included in the price. I had dinner at the restaurant a couple of times and both times the food was very good. The biggest complaint is the view from my room. I had a sideways partial sea view room on the sixth floor with a balcony. I paid over €500 per night and for that price the view was mostly disappointing, because what I saw primarily were buildings with construction, as well as an orchard of some sort in front of the hotel that was covered with a large green tarp! I am including photos, so you can judge for yourself.

This was our second visit to this marvellous hotel, (our first visit was unfortunately cut short last year due to a medical emergency), so we decided to return this year. My husband and I agreed it was the best holiday we have had for many years. The staff are absolutely marvellous, so kind, friendly, and attentive. We chose a sea view room overlooking the Bay of Naples, and whilst it was lovely, we spent so much time on the roof terrace drinking in the view, it would not have mattered if our room did not have a sea view. The rooms are possibly the cleanest we have found anywhere. The floors are spotless. Breakfast was plentiful. We did not eat dinner in the restaurant so cannot comment on this, but the bar food is very good. The hotel is in a great place to explore Sorrento, only a few minutes walk to the centre, and very close to the train station and the port. We cannot wait to return to this hotel and spend more time on the roof terrace sipping cocktails!
