The Best Western is named "City" - but is located a good 2 km outside Bologna's historic old town in a residential area. This makes the location to the side streets pleasantly quiet. On the main road directly in front of the hotel, however, and completely up to the old town, the streets are currently dug up - a mega-construction site, because Bologna receives a tram. Larger supermarket in 2 minutes walking distance, 15 minutes to the main train station. If you walk to the old town you need in about 30 minutes, the path winds. However, there are buses to what extent their journeys are restricted by the current construction site situation, we cannot assess. ----------------------- Our room was of good size, the furniture looks old-fashioned, is adequate with a small desk and seating. The beds are fine, were freshly made daily (!!). Luxury is not to be expected, it is a small fridge is available, an electric kettle, instead of glasses there are paper cups in the room. AC works well, the walls to the neighboring room are a bit noisy . The bathroom was pleasant, bright, not too cramped, with walk-in shower, a wide shelf under the mirror, a small stool, heated towel rail. Otherwise only dispensers with soap/shower gel, neither conditioner nor lotion, no make-up mirror. --------------------- For breakfast you get a good basic standard with a bit of cheese and 3 types of sausage, prepared scrambled eggs, cereals, yogurt, fruit and a larger selection of sweet pastries - absolutely fine, also very fair priced. ----------------------- Feeling like the hotel did not fully correspond to the civic understanding of a 4-star hotel, for this, room facilities or comfort were too basic. However, as facilities such as bar/restaurant (although closed during our stay), a 24-hour reception etc. are available, it will be officially safe. Ultimately, an additional 35 euros (2 people / 3 nights) tourist tax was charged, which were not communicated in advance anywhere.
