This is an older hotel but with a lovely old-fashioned and homey feel about it. It is not luxurious but has everything you need for a comfortable stay; it is spacious with a big and comfortable bed and a roomy bathroom, plus those old-fashioned Italian windows with shutters and blinds and curtains, adjustable to every weather condition. It is central, near the main station (which again is close to all the tourist attractions), and has lots of coffee shops and two big supermarkets nearby. The hotel is clean and well maintained and the desk staff very friendly and helpful (they even lent me an electric kettle). It was a very pleasant stay.

I cannot speak for other reviewers but pur own experience of Hotel Astor was extremely positive. From the very first greeting the staff were friendly, our ('superior grade') room was huge and spotless with a very good bed and the location worked extremely well for our visit to Bologna. The breakfast offering is also a cut above many small city hotels that we have visited in Europe. The Hotel Astor is located around a 25 minute walk from the old centre of the city but the hotel is in a nice, quiet neighbourhood and the walk is an easy one that feels safe at all hours. One extra benefit of the location is that, being on the airport side of the city (but untroubled by plane noise) you can get a taxi there from the airport for less than the cost of two seats on public transport. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel, we like small and friendly three star places and felt that this was a very good example of that.

Disastrous Experience – Crumbling Structure and Arrogant Staff "Bad stay from every point of view, an experience that I do not recommend to anyone. The initial impact was terrible: the reception staff is characterized by an unheard-of rudeness and a total closure towards the customer. There is not a shred of welcome nor helpfulness in solving problems; it almost seems that courtesy is not at home in this hotel. Unfortunately, the rooms are even worse than the service. Cleanliness is non-existent, an unacceptable aspect for any accommodation facility. The walls are peeling and the decor is so neglected that it is depressing. Sleeping was a challenge: the beds are completely sunken, devoid of any ergonomic support. In summary: a degraded environment run by people without professionalism. Stay away from it."
