Hotel Fondo Catena

Dirty hotel both inside the room and outside: a moth and two flies inside the tart display case in the breakfast room. Staff not available. A shame because the location has a lot of potential, being surrounded by greenery.

We arrived from the long avenue of Via Catena and the impact was wow: fields as far as the eye can see, blue sky, and in the distance the perfectly maintained yellow structure. The Hotel Fondo Catena is a renovated former farmhouse, restored with great respect, immersed in a huge park where in the evening the sun filters through the trees (photos no. 8 and 9). Spacious room, really comfortable bed, impeccable cleanliness, quiet air conditioning, and a new bathroom. Zero noise, only cicadas and birds. Outside: perfect English lawn, loungers, small tables, and a barbecue/fire pit area that makes the atmosphere even more convivial. Strategic location: we are in Porotto, on the "wine and flavors road," 4 km from the center of Ferrara and the Estense Castle, yet it feels like being in the open countryside. Very convenient internal parking, quick check-in, and very kind staff to welcome us, along with the owners Klodiana and Fabrizio. We dined upon request: authentic cuisine, generous portions, and rustic flavors as per local tradition. In the morning, a plentiful breakfast in a green setting. Ideal for unwinding, for a romantic getaway, or as a base to explore Ferrara by bike. It is not an impersonal hotel; it is a country house that welcomes you. We will return in the autumn.
