This review is for trip in Sept 2012. This was my first solo trip and safety was my main concern. It's a boutique apartment style hotel. Rooms are mid-size, have all the amenities and beds are comfortable. My bathroom had a sloping ceiling but in all a good stay. The place is situated in the corner of Ponte Sant'Angelo and you can walk out to a magnificent view of Castel Sant'Angelo. The café next door served a coffee and pastry for breakfast, enough to get you on your way. I had a beautiful first stay in Rome and would highly recommend this place for solo female travelers.

Oh dear. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our stay at this hotel at all. To start with, I encountered no staff for our entire 2 night stay, not at check in, nor check out. This was our first time in Rome, so it would've been great to get some advice on good restaurants etc. in the area, but this wasn't possible. It also meant I had to email if we needed things for the room which is unlike any other hotel I've experienced. The hotel is situated in the basement of an old building, so you get the pleasure of having the pavement at chest height when you look out the window. It's a very busy street with a lot of people walking right by the window, so it felt very exposed. This issue was exacerbated by the fact that there were no shutters on the window and only old raggedy curtains that we had to hold closed with bobby pins and rig up so there weren't gaps on the side where people could easily look in from the street. The room in general was, yeah, it was not nice. The mattress was far too small for the frame, which was odd. There was only a sheet on the bed, no blanket or duvet, again odd, given it was pretty cold in Rome at the time of our stay. When I asked for a duvet (via email) one was delivered to our room but with no cover on it. So we opted not to use it after all. The bathroom was nice and clean, but it was really small, made all the more worse by the slanting roof (under a staircase) - you had to crouch to get to the towel rack. We both smacked our heads a couple of times. Soundproof? No. Enjoy hearing you neighbours farts. Breakfast was also a pretty average experience. You're provided a coupon to show at the cafe next door and you're given a drink, a croissant, and a small bowl of fruit salad. It was enough for me but wouldn't be for a lot of people. I don't like leaving bad reviews because I know it's no fun for owners/staff to have to read, but honestly I really don't have anything positive to say other than its in a great area of Rome and the standard of cleanliness was good.

Lovely clean room with a big bed and a really cute little bathroom - only issue with the sloping ceiling is that my brother is 6ft 5! This was only an issue in the bathroom though and the bedroom had really high ceilings. The safe in the wardrobe is free and a decent size (couldn't fit my iPad in but everything else went in fine!) and there was also free wifi in the room. The location was incredible, a five minute walk to the Vatican City and about 20 minutes to the colosseum. The castle opposite (castle Sant angelo) was a real bonus and is definitely worth a visit! Breakfast is good, served in the cafe next door. This includes a croissant, fruit/yoghurt, coffee and a glass of orange juice which filled us up till lunch. We were also told that breakfast is served till 12 meaning you don't have to worry about missing it! Overall, really pleased with this hotel and would definitely come again!
