Guest House Arco dei Tolomei

We have stated here five times and every one of our visits have been a delight. The owners, Marco and Gianna, are so helpful and accessible and George makes sure everything is in ship shape. You’re within walking distance of major attractions and restaurants but off the beaten path enough to get a good night’s rest.

Start the day with a lovingly prepared breakfast at a beautifully laid table in the living room with fresh bread, homemade jam, fresh fruit, homemade cake fresh from the oven, eggs, cheese, juice and much more, as well as lively conversations with the hosts and other guests. When planning your day, be inspired by the suggestions of the host, which take you away from the standards to small but fine experiences. If they want to go authentic and exquisite dining they ask for suggestions and assistance with the reservation. Such charming and helpful hosts are very rare to find. The rooms are lovingly furnished with antique furniture and have all the modern amenities you need. Everything very clean and stylish. We had a great little balcony in front of the room. The location is very central in Travestere and much is within walking distance. Since located in a side alley it is nevertheless very quiet at night and you can sleep well with an open window. We will definitely come back!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Residenza Arco dei Tolomei. The guest house has a great location in Trastevere, a cool, funky neighborhood that can be busy and noisy at night but not in the immediate area of the guest house. The true wonder of the guest house is Marco, the owner, and his helper George. Both are totally friendly and accommodating, taking care of your every need. Breakfast is super, served at a large dining room table where the guests can eat together (those who come down at the same time), sharing stories and insights. During breakfast hours, Marco passes along information about where you can go in Rome to see wonders that are often off the beaten track, like small museums and churches that are not on the top "to-see" places highlighted in tourist guides. He's so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Be ready to be overwhelmed (in a good way), leaving breakfast with a map that Marco has marked up with multiple circles and lines directing you to the sights. And some mornings his lovely spouse Gianna and their cute dog Alopronia appear, making the morning a truly family affair. The rooms are simple. almost rustic, which we loved. Our room had a lovely rooftop balcony. One thing to note: there's no lift either to get to the guest house (it's on the second floor of a small building) and no lift for the upstairs rooms in the guest house. Not a problem at all for us, but it might be for some. Overall, a great guest house, a place filled with warmth and good feelings. Should we ever return to Rome we'll do everything we can to stay there again.
