Hotel Giamaica

We arrived in Rome at the end of a 5 week stay in Italy. I had booked the cheapest room I could find with decent reviews because our budget was very tight and I wanted to make sure we had enough € left at the end for plenty of good Roman food and sight seeing. We ( my husband and I- both in our 40s) were very happy with the place. The room was very basic- but clean and cheery with a couple of great Rothko prints. I glimpsed into a couple of larger rooms that looked good- but I had picked the cheapest room available which was a bit smaller. Antonio was a great host. It was helpful for us that he spoke good English, and he was always available for a chat about Rome, with recommendations and advice. After a chat about food I later found a bunch of photocopies from the latest Lonely planet with write-ups about restaurants a dbars in Trastevere and elsewhere, that was very useful.

We stayed here while interrailing and it was perfect for us. The owner and the cleaner were both lovely, bringing us a fan (extremely useful!) & multi-plug adaptor. There were 2 shared bathrooms (wet rooms - bring flip-flops) between a small number of rooms so you never had to wait, and we also had a sink in our room. The rooms were simple and very nice. Only problem was a nearby church bell(?) went off at about 7am every day which was quite annoying. There is a lift up to the hotel as it's on the 4th floor. The hotel is right next to Termini station so it was very easy to get the metro around Rome from there (e.g. 5ish mins to Colloseum) but definitely keep an eye on your stuff in the station! Would definitely use this hotel again.

booked a low priced hotel and that's what I got. Inn keeper was a decent person very helpful. Close to Termini rail station. it has a shared bathroom (2). Stayed 2 nights, was good for the reasons I wanted it. At the end of the day I would spend a few euros more for a better place. I listened to the reviews on the internet everyone liked it, to be honest its not bad just not totally happy.
