Il Borghetto Antico

Il Borghetto Antico was a really lovely, well situated B&B. It was incredibly easy to find from the nearest metro station, Arco di Travertine, and took less than 30 minutes to get to the heart of Rome via the metro. The rooms were very clean and serviced every day. Breakfast was provided in the room and consisted of packaged breakfast sweets such as croissants and coffee and tea pods to use in the machine provided. It also had air-conditioning but having visited in mid-September we never really need to use it. The windows also had shutters that we closed to keep the room cool during the day. Our room also had an ensuite shower/toilet room. The staff we met were incredibly helpful and nice. The main woman who was working there spoke some English but any Italian was useful to know. We always managed to get across our requests and vice versa. You may find it helpful to ask any questions ahead of time via email using google translate to iron out any complications you might foresee. The only negative for us was there was a lack of a 'front-desk', though as a small B&B this couldn't be reasonably expected. I think if we had a better grasp of Italian then communicating via phone wouldn't have been a problem, though as I said before, the woman knew enough English to communicate most needs to. There was a supermarket near by, which was convenient to stock up on any small needs, a water fountain across from the building for fresh spring water, and it even had a local sightseeing spot - the Via Latina, which was a pleasant and quiet sight. Perfect if you are interested in Ancient Rome, but don't have the time to walk the length of the Appian Way. We would heartily recommend this B&B but do bear in mind that it is what you pay for and is a very nice but basic room. If you are looking for a plushier experience then try a hotel. This suited our needs but older couples may want a bit more luxury.
