I’ve traveled through hundreds of different hotels, and no matter the hotel stars, this is a truly unique experience at star(poo)hotels Michelangelo. Entering the room I immediately headed to the toilet as I needed to relieve myself and the moment I open the toilet seat I see what no one ever expects to see anywhere, let alone in a 4 star hotel: massive pile of poo. I was shocked for at least 10 seconds before I remembered I need to take a photo as proof so the timestamp can show it was here before I got there with my girlfriend.
Of course, the telephone doesn’t work in the room so I called the reception on their mobile number and after checking the toilet (they didn’t seem suprised which means it happens often) they changed my room without apology and the new room was an upgrade - as in it only had very long strands of black hair on the towels (neither me or my girlfriend have black long hair). I went to complain first about the massive suprise in the toilet and instead of apology or compensation, the receptionist just nodded her head while smirking and didn’t say one word of apology, ignoring everything I was saying, so I didn’t even bother to mention the towels as it is obvious the customer service of this hotel is equal to what I found in the toilet - huge pile of poo.

The hotel deeply disappointed me.
I had booked and paid for a Comfort room with a balcony, but I was assigned a room without a balcony. I did not file a complaint at the front desk because I do not like to complain during my stay.
At the time of check-out, a receptionist asked me for a cash tip. I was very surprised and refused. I find this behavior truly inappropriate in a four-star hotel. Are the receptionists paid so little that they have to ask guests for tips?
After checking out, I used the luggage storage, leaving two suitcases and a backpack containing a glass cake stand. I had purchased it at a great price from an acquaintance: it was a precious object from the early twentieth century, worth about 150-200 euros, which I wanted to take home as a souvenir of my stay in Rome.
When I returned to pick up my luggage, I discovered that the cake stand had been completely destroyed. I spoke to the front desk and was told that it was my responsibility because I had not notified the staff that there was a fragile item in my backpack. I was also told that the hotel could only compensate for the damage by presenting the purchase receipt. Unfortunately, I did not have one, because it was a private purchase. Consequently, I suffered a financial loss that the hotel refused to compensate.
In conclusion, this experience left me very disappointed. Besides not having received the booked room, I witnessed unprofessional behavior from the front desk and suffered a financial loss for which I received no help. For me, it was not an experience worthy of a four-star hotel.
