Hotel Mayer & Splendid

I organized a weekend in Desenzano with a "historic" group of friends and I chose this hotel by chance. I must say that we had a very good experience in terms of hospitality, cleanliness, rooms, breakfast, and everything one would expect from a hotel of this type. I appreciated how they managed to combine their long history with the current events of our time. The only slightly negative note, if one wants to find it: an unpleasant smell in the reception area probably due to the proximity to the lake?

We arrived at the Mayer & Splendid almost out of necessity, after having decided to cut short our stay at another property in Desenzano due to a series of inconveniences. What had been presented to us as suite accommodations had turned out, in reality, to be a rather deteriorated apartment, also located in a setting that did not correspond to our expectations for a tourist stay. To this was added a predominantly remote management, which had left us with a strong feeling of poor assistance. At Mayer & Splendid we found exactly the opposite and, in a very short time, we managed to forget the unpleasant previous experience. A special thanks goes to Mr. Luisito, who from our arrival proved to be practical and helpful in helping us manage the difficulties deriving from the sudden change of structure, perfectly understanding the needs of a family that arrived already tried by an unpleasant situation. We found the same attention in all his colleagues at the reception, always present and available for any need: from support with luggage to the organization and booking of boarding to visit the lake. And this is precisely the aspect that remained with us most from the stay: finally having people in front of us. People to whom we could address a question, ask for advice or represent a need, receiving attention and a concrete answer. After an experience characterized by switchboards, WhatsApp messages and impersonal communications, finding a real hotel welcome made a big difference. The Mayer & Splendid reminded us that a beautiful structure and a privileged position are certainly important, but that the real added value of a hotel remains its staff. We arrived in Desenzano with an inconvenience to solve and we left with an excellent memory of the stay. Absolutely recommended, especially to those who still attribute value to the most authentic meaning of the word "hospitality".

Arriving at this hotel, we immediately go back in time; the furnishings, the frescoes, the central staircase, the chandeliers, and the photos of the Mayer family, complete with a family tree, tell the history of the hotel, which fascinated us immediately. A pearl from the 1800s that has maintained its originality but combined it with modernity for the services offered. Do not miss the Spa, a true jewel, but the real beauty is the staff, everyone, and I mean everyone, from the concierge to the floor attendant, with a kindness and helpfulness that is very rare these days. Spacious rooms with attention to detail; we had the suite with a lake view and the sunrise was spectacular. Highly recommended
