Grand Hotel Cadenabbia

We stayed here as part of a driving trip around and it worked really well for what we needed, particularly in terms of location and practicality for travelling with cars. The setting is undeniably stunning. The views over the lake are spectacular and easily one of the highlights of the stay. Waking up to that scenery and being able to take it in throughout breakfast is something special. From a practical perspective, it’s a great base if you’re driving. Access and convenience for parking made things much easier for us compared to some of the more restrictive areas around the lake. The hotel itself could do with a bit of TLC in places, as some areas feel a little tired. However, the rooms were clean, which is ultimately the most important thing, and the service was good, friendly and helpful without being over the top. Overall, it delivered exactly what we needed for this type of trip: a well-located, comfortable base with incredible views.

Abandoned?Permanently closed, it looks like the staff left the hotel in the middle of work to never come back. Fresh laundry stands around the hall. Everything on the lower floor is covered in a film of mold, as there was probably more water damage. Apparently nobody cares, not even the owner in the municipality of Cadenabbia apparently nobody noticed. Too bad about this really beautiful hotel. Now a Lost Place!

A characterful grand Italianesque hotel, handy for exploring Lake Como by ferries. The hotel bars/restaurants overlook the scenic lake and mountains, but the evening menu is expensive. The breakfast provided a good selection of continental-style food from its large buffet facility. We found a handful of cafes/restaurants within ten minute walking distance from the hotel. The bedrooms are of a good size and the period decor is traditional and befitting of the hotel's architecture. The staff were helpful, and we were greatly assisted by the tour company representatives who were both English-speaking Italians.
