Hotel Villetta Maria

I stayed at this hotel with my son for a couple of days. I have been visiting Canazei and the surrounding area for 40 years and I also know the Villetta Maria, managed until a few years ago by a local family. The location is splendid, in Pian de Trevisan, albeit very far from the center of Canazei. Reception and staff a bit sui generis, of the type: "But what am I doing here?". It felt like being in a 1970s boarding house in some remote place in Southern Italy. Staff absolutely not up to the usual standard of the Dolomite context (and this, in part, explains the rapid decline of Canazei compared to Val Gardena or Val Badia). Company cafeteria food and prepared accordingly. The portions are generous, but they are also generous at the Rifugio Demetz, at the Forcella del Sassolungo. I would therefore draw a veil of pity over the quality. Dreadful buffet: Chinese plastic bowls for vegetables, plastic cups everywhere (they don't even put out glass cups at breakfast), cold and stale croissants, fruit juices bought at the supermarket without even an indication of what they are, a beat-up coffee machine. But the sublime touch is the envelope they leave on your table at the last dinner: with handwriting that denotes a certain lack of familiarity with a pen, they wrote to us with a marker: "The staff says thank you". In short, they are asking for a tip. During dinner, the television is always on while broadcasting horrible programs, as if we were at Uncle Gusberto's house. In short, a shame. Too bad, because with a location like that, it is not difficult to be attractive. Canazei and the Val di Fassa have significantly lowered the level of the hotel industry, to the detriment of Val Gardena (another level, not even comparable) and Val Badia, where the level of the facilities is from another planet. Too bad. I advise the property to adapt to Val Gardena and not to Canazei.

Experience to be repeated. Exceptional cleanliness, linen change, excellent and abundant food. Exceptional service from the staff. Wonderful location in the middle of two mountains, unfortunately this creates problems for the telephone line and the internet line and even the Wi-Fi does not work

Booked on Friday evening on Booking, we arrived by motorcycle on Saturday afternoon and they immediately told us that if I wanted to put the motorcycle under the awnings in case it rained, I could easily do so (a big deal for us motorcyclists). They showed us where dinner and breakfast were held, both well-stocked and of good quality. The room was small but clean with a TV and balcony, bathroom with shower complete with all fixtures and also a shampoo kit, etc. If we wanted, there would have been a sauna and a hot tub... we enjoyed a spritz surrounded by nature, yes, because the hotel is truly isolated in the middle of the woods. The staff is kind and hospitable; perhaps to some it may seem a little direct, but still kind and hospitable. We highly recommend it. Luca and Alessandra 08.30.2026
