Splendid Hotel Venezia

My boyfriend treated me to 3 nights in Venice. I’m so happy he choose the hotel Splendid as we had the most memorable stay. The best shower EVER. GHD hairdryer, beautiful toiletries, fabulous bed. The location was just superb as well. The staff were wonderful and really were so helpful. I have to say however our bedroom, although beautiful and luxurious was tiny !!!!! Also the pillows were flat as pancakes but overall the hotel was really fabulous and I would love to stay at some of the other Splendid hotels as if they are all like this then I would love to experience them all ! I have to say the attention to detail here was truly recognised and appreciated and we truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

It’s a beautiful hotel near Piazza San Marco that you can reach by foot in few mins! The rooms are very big , clean with a classy decoration! You feel you are in a real palace! Even an old hotel as most in Venice Its very well kept !! In fact a wonderful hotel!

An old hotel (50s?) with a certain charm with its tiny tin-walled lifts and creaky wooden stairs. We even had a proper key instead of a card! Rooms were old fashioned but comfortable and the bathroom good despite a small shower head which looked like it might not be effective but was fine. The room was slightly overheated which we remedied by opening the secondary glazing overnight....the external windows were so draughty that it provided just the right amount of ventilation. Reception staff very helpful and friendly but the dining room service was pretty woeful with staff seemingly trained to avoid your eye. If you managed to get their attention they usually bought back what you asked for......not always though. As for the food quality.....the buffet breakfast was good enough but the cooked food was awful. There was no menu suggestions so we learnt by word of mouth effectively. Scrambled eggs were congealed, bacon mostly inedible. One cold plate of scrambled eggs and bacon was returned and came back reheated by microwave!!! Most people didnt bother and just left the food uneaten. Why was it so difficult to provide freshly cooked food? We were also disappointed to find the bar closed on our return on 2 occasions so no means of getting a drink of any kind as there were no facilities in the rooms. It was late (midnight) I admit but this was a first for me. No informational literature about the hotel or town is provided. The reception staff were happy to help but that only works if you know the questions to ask. In my opinion, because of the above dining shortcomings AND the slightly shabby decor and fixtures, the hotel should be a 3* and NOT a 4*.
