Grand Hotel Bristol

This was our second visit to Stresa, and we absolutely love the town—the food, scenery, and atmosphere are all fantastic. Unfortunately, this hotel was disappointing, especially at around £300 per night. Despite being modern, it lacked some basic expectations. Pool loungers cost extra unless you’re staying in a suite, which felt unreasonable at this price. The minimalist design also meant many doors had no signs, making it unnecessarily difficult to find facilities. The service was poor throughout our stay. We were left waiting at the bar several times while staff cleaned and chatted, and it felt like they were either understaffed or simply uninterested. As someone who’s half Italian and has visited Italy countless times, I don’t think this is a cultural difference. Breakfast was also below par, which is rare in Italy. There was artificial grass throughout the property (an odd choice), and construction work began at 8am, which could be frustrating if you’re hoping for a relaxing weekend lie-in. Overall, I’d recommend either spending a little more on one of the other lakeside hotels or a little less on one of the smaller hotels closer to the town centre.

Superb hotel perfectly renovated. Ideally located to enjoy Stresa and the Borromean Islands. Spacious, clean, well-equipped room, decorated with great taste. Breakfast with a lake view featuring a very high-quality buffet.

Can’t say enough positive things about how well this hotel is run and their wonderful staff. Recent renovations combine technology with good design.
