Hotel Residence Italia

We stayed two nights in this establishment and, unfortunately, this experience was very far from the standards one can expect from a 3-star hotel. We had booked a studio with a terrace. In reality, this "terrace" corresponds to the roof of the terrace of the tobacco shop/bar operated by the hotel managers. The permanent smell of tobacco rose up into the room and even permeated the towels; it was impossible to open the window. In the common areas, air fresheners are installed everywhere, clearly to mask the odors, which makes the atmosphere even more unpleasant. The welcome is non-existent. There is no real reception: you have to go find the operator at the tobacco shop/bar. The people present did not know where our room keys were, only spoke Italian, and made no effort to try to communicate with us. Another unpleasant surprise: Booking.com indicates a city tax of €0.50 per person per night, while we were charged €2 per person per night on site. Breakfast, although advertised as included, is very disappointing. We thought it would be served in a dedicated room, but in reality, you have to have it in the tobacco shop/bar. The service is limited to a single croissant and a single drink per person, with no other choice. For an establishment rated 3 stars, this is particularly insufficient. Furthermore, the service is extremely unpleasant: everything is placed on the counter and customers then have to carry their own croissant and drink to a table, even though the space is very limited. The most unacceptable point concerns the cleaning. Staying for two nights, we left a message first thing in the morning at 8:30 AM simply asking for the room to be made up and for the towels, which were permeated with the smell of tobacco, to be replaced. Upon our return in the evening, nothing had been done: the beds were not made, the room had not been cleaned, and no clean towels had been provided. Lacking a reception or anyone to speak to, it was impossible for us to report the problem and we had to reuse the dirty towels left on the floor. Finally, the hotel is located along an extremely busy road and in the immediate vicinity of a railway line. Soundproofing is almost nonexistent. Added to this is the coming and going of the operators in the hallways during the night, talking in loud voices, which makes resting very difficult. In view of this experience, this establishment absolutely does not, in our opinion, correspond to the level of service expected from a 3-star hotel. It is absolutely to be avoided.

Hotel Italia is located directly on the road to Lake Maggiore. The room was okay. Free parking is available directly at the hotel. The included breakfast consists only of a croissant and a coffee. There is a bar in the house.

Spartan room with a musty smell heated by a very noisy air conditioner. The thing that annoyed me most of all was the absence of hot water, which I would say is essential for taking a shower in December. Reception almost non-existent, you have to go to the bar next door from the outside
