La Palma Hotel

We paid to upgrade our two rooms only to find that they overlooked a huge construction site right next door with a peek view of the lake if we went out to the noisy balcony. We asked to switch our rooms and were told the hotel was completely full. Instead, they offered to comp our €150 meal at the restaurant. We paid €645 per night per room. Very disappointed. The rooms were modern and nicely appointed, but that construction site is a major impediment. If we would’ve known beforehand, we would not have stayed at this hotel.

I knew this hotel before the renovation; it was good. Today, completely renovated, it is VERY good. Chic, contemporary decor. A plus for the restaurant where, with half-board, you can choose from the entire menu. Cuisine and service 👍 A lovely stopover

We stayed in a Junior Corner Suite on the 6th floor of the hotel for a week to celebrate our anniversary. We had a magnificent view over Lake Maggiore which is the main reason we booked the hotel. The positives: The hotel is well designed, bright and airy. The room itself had a fabulous big bed, a sofa and a couple of chairs. On the balcony we had another sofa, table and chairs and a lounger. So lots of places to relax. The room was very well kept with two visits a day from housekeeping. The pool is stunning, plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas and a wonderful view over the lake. The sky bar is beautiful, again lots of space and places to sit. Breakfast is fantastic, there was plenty of choice and the staff were excellent. The negatives: The bathroom was quite small and didn't have a bath, the tight configuration made the floor constantly got wet from the open shower. There was no blind on the bathroom window which overlooked a building site so we had to hang a towel over the window to shower in privacy. No mirror in the bedroom, the main mirror in the room was in the lobby area which was quite dark. Aside from the staff at breakfast who were brilliant, the rest of the staff were a bit hit and miss in terms of customer service. We had to escalate a few issues to the manager. The sofa in the room was a sofa bed and was hard as heck! Not in the least bit comfortable to relax on. Finally the big issue is the building work next door. We were on a corner overlooking the building site. That meant noise starting at 8am and going on until around 5 everyday. It meant using the balcony during the day was not as pleasurable as it should have been. The manager did offer to move us but we were reticent to give up the view so decided to stay put. Would we visit again? Probably once the building work is finished though it's a massive project so that won't be soon!
