As I often do, the final rating is not given by the exact calculation of the value of the property based on services, type, location, and other concrete elements, but by how well I felt, how much I was able to enjoy the stay without disturbances or inconveniences, and how much the people at the property conveyed professionalism, commitment, availability, and sincere courtesy to me.
For this reason, my rating is five stars, regardless of the actual level that someone might assign to La Quercia based on a hotel evaluation manual.
Many might classify La Quercia as a farmhouse, but the definition they have adopted of Experience hotel is in my opinion spot on and conveys the idea well: a place that is certainly special for its location, characteristics, atmosphere, management, and people. Immersed in the woods and in silence, which allows you to completely disconnect from the chaotic and noisy world even during peak holiday periods, and it represents an oasis of tranquility to return to every day after the various and interesting cultural, naturalistic, or food and wine activities that the area offers.
Compared to a classic 4-star hotel, everything is much simpler and more basic, but you do not feel the need for anything else and the comfort of our stay was never affected by it.
We had standard rooms, perfect, comfortable, perfectly functioning air conditioning, mosquito nets on the windows if you want to fully enjoy the forest air and the sounds of nature, ample space and a closet for luggage, and a small refrigerator useful for storing drinks or a few small portions of food.
Meals, at least in the summer, are eaten under a cool and airy canopy that constitutes another point of pleasant time spent with the relaxed rhythm of the vacation and nature.
A relaxed rhythm for the guests, because instead, the rhythm with which the owners manage everything is as tight and efficient as ever: everything is always well organized, and every request is welcomed and considered with kindness, availability, a smile, and friendliness.
The dinner menu changes every day, and it includes appetizers, a first course, a second course, and a dessert that are always different from day to day, with an alternation of meat, fish, vegetables, and the use of local products cooked at home and made to order. Of course, you are not at a restaurant with a menu to choose from, but we always enjoyed every single dish. Obviously, there is the possibility to report any intolerances or special needs, with the utmost availability of the people at La Quercia to accommodate them as much as possible.
The great strength of La Quercia is precisely the feeling of being with family, with the owners showing that they are interested in people even before the business.
The number of rooms and guests is limited, so even when it is full, the property maintains a size and an atmosphere of complete tranquility. In this, a part is certainly also played by the education and attentiveness of the guests themselves: the presence of everyone during our stay was kind and discreet, without ever hearing annoying noises or loud chatter. Not enough is ever done to educate people to respect others, and the overtourism that more and more locations suffer from certainly does not help. At La Quercia, we found a lucky oasis in this regard as well.
A very welcome and appreciated point was also the light and always pleasant background music that accompanied the dinners: a selection of truly refined and ideal music, at a barely audible volume that allowed for perfect conversation at one's table even in a low voice, perceiving the music just enough to accompany the evening but almost as if it were coming from elsewhere, without that excessive and cumbersome presence that unfortunately more and more locations impose on guests in every corner and at any time, almost preventing relaxation and distraction.
If you are looking for a property where you always find everything, crowded with waiters and service staff with big bows, 24-hour entertainment, a starred chef, and a ten-page wine list, go somewhere else: La Quercia is a type of paradise that is fortunately very different, dedicated precisely to those who are still looking for real places and people far from the masses.
