Hotel Valkarana - Relais di Campagna

Very nice, well-kept, and quiet hotel, room with lake view and very pleasant terrace. Beautiful pool and lovely garden. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Located nicely located beyond civilization. Unfortunately, the experience is ruined by unreasonable rules and a sense of constant surveillance. No cell phone service, and you are not allowed to eat or drink your own water in the room or patio. Bringing food and drinks is removed, leading to fines. Not being allowed to eat in your room is understandable, but not even drinking your own water is a very unusual rule in Sardinia. The hotel refers to animals, hygiene and waste sorting, but at the same time it is possible to pay 5 euros for room service and order both food and drinks. The icing on the cake was when we took the car up to see the sunset. Shortly afterwards the owner came driving, asked if we were staying at the hotel and then drove back without a word. Had he just said: "Excuse me, there are a lot of people who drive in here without staying at the hotel, so I just wanted to check," it would have been a completely different matter. Instead, it only reinforced the feeling of being watched. We therefore chose to check out the day after, even though we had several paid nights left. It probably says a lot about how we experienced the stay. For us, this did not at all reflect the hospitality and relaxed feeling that we otherwise associate with Sardinia. Instead, we recommend going further south, where we have always been warmly treated. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the hotel.
