Eremo Della Giubiliana

We stayed 2 nights in this 5-star establishment located in a magnificent setting, offering a garden and pool. It is an old monastery that has been restored with great taste. The dining rooms are true architectural jewels. The staff is rarely courteous. The breakfasts are delicious and very varied, same for the dinners. The room we occupied was small (poorly soundproofed) and the bedding needs to be reviewed (mattress squeaking). The bathroom is insufficiently equipped with storage (a storage unit could be installed under the sink, a corner shelf to place soaps and shampoo in the shower). It is reasonable to estimate that the establishment is a very good 4*.

Nice buildings, but our room was disappointing. It had 2 stories, but the bottom story was just a big open space with a card table in the middle, so useless. Getting to the bedroom and bath upstairs required climbing a long steep staircase. The A/C was freezing, despite changing the set temperature several times. The hot water kept giving out, making the shower painful. Our door had a “fun” medieval lock that we could never work, and the desk staff told us not to worry if the door stayed unlocked. The staff was universally friendly, especially at breakfast. The pool area needs to be spruced up, and the outdoor plastic furniture should be upgraded.

Whilst the building and all its furnishings are undoubtedly full of history, there are certain simple changes that could be made to improve the quality of the stay at Eremo Della Giubiliana. The mattress in our room was so hard, a simple fix which could make the comfort of the stay so much better. We ate at the restaurant one night, the setting is beautiful but the food was quite expensive for the quality. I do not think based on the ‘level of luxury’ this hotel is worthy of its 5* rating, the building is beautiful, what is delivered within it, could be (and should be) better.
