Hotel Jonic Mazzaro

Didn't realise till we got there that we weren't actually staying in Taormina proper but at the foot of the mountain, but it proved a good choice in the end. Very friendly staff at the front desk, dining & housekeeping! Thought it was a great location above Mazzaro Beach but that's another story (30eu to go on the beach!). The breakfast was good, and our two-night stay was memorable. The negatives were the TV didn't work properly, and the shower was crap, bad stall & controls! But the terrace! It made the visit, fantastic view out over the sea and really good to sit with a book & drink and enjoy the great weather. One night we visited a local deli and picked meats, cheese & dried tomatoes plus a fresh loaf of bread and had dinner on the terrace as the sunset in the West, a perfect end to the day. Close to the underground parking station & the Cable Car station up top, plus several meal choices in the vicinity, so a good pick but make sure you get the terrace level!

What we liked: Jonic hotel is very well located, 2min from Isola Bella and next to the gondola to Taormina. Parking nearby, possible for 20€/day We had room 42, with large terrace, very nice view of the Bay of Mazzaro and free on arrival around noon. Room very clean, soundproofed, air conditioned, simply arranged, comfortable bedding, some may find it a bit harsh. Bathroom with powerful shower, clean, shower a little small. simple toiletries are provided. Possibility to have breakfast on the terrace (To be collected yourself in the restaurant room) Staff very nice, smiling and helpful. Lots of restaurants nearby. What we liked less: We invite you to check out at 10:30, 11:00 will be much better.

Dated structure to which is dedicated a poor maintenance, just think that the fixtures let all the noises coming from outside pass through, the furniture is worn by time as well as the air conditioner that does not allow you to adjust the inclination of the air deflector because faulty, the safe also fails and to finish inside the shower it was not possible to place even a pack of bubble bath because the shower is devoid of any shelf... considering about 150 € per day for two people without breakfast...
