Sant Alphio Palace Hotel

I went to the Saint Alphius Hotel from June 16 thru June 18. The location of the hotel is not great, away from what you want to see in Taormina. The hotel is devided in two parts, one part to the left of the reception and one to the right of the reception desk. We were assigned the part of the hotel to the right of the reception desk for which you have to get outside to haul the luggage. We had to walk thru piles of laundry on the hallways to get to the room. I talked to the manager at the front desk and he was not that helpful. The room is dated and you need a key to turn the air conditioner on. The breakfast was decent and the premises were clean.

Approach and appearance of Hotel are very shabby and run down. It is approached through a scruffy housing estate with an abundance of rubbish on the roadside. The approaching road looks like a rubbish dump, I've never seen anything like it and it's an absolute disgrace. It was an extremely disappointing start to a holiday, we based ourselves in Lentini thinking it would be central for exploring Eastern Sciliy. Lentini as a town is drab and scruffy and has no appeal at all. The hotel rooms are adequate and clean but there appears to be a problem with water leakages. We had a leak in our bathroom round the tap and came back to water on the floor which we mentioned on day 1 it was eventually fixed on day 4! There is evidence of leakages in the corridors where the ceilings are damaged. The hairdryer blew up on first usage and they immediately gave us another one but said they'd had problems before with one in our room so you ask way leave it there! The staff are very friendly and helpful and we had a few meals in the evening which were excellent. The trouble at the time of year we were staying a lot if restaurants were closed in town as it was the end of season. There was not much atmosphere in the hotel for eating but the food was fresh and home cooked. Sadly this is a place we do not ever want to return to and has been very disappointing. The worst thing is the filth and rubbish around some of the pproach roads to the hotel which made it less than inviting on arrival. The rubbish which is clearly dumped is worse than what we've seen in some third world countries!
