Full of rustic Sicilian charm, world-class food, and located in a sweet spot on the shores of the turquoise Tyrennian Sea, Villa Ridente is a gem of a resort. From my balcony I could hear the sounds of tropical birds and watch as a few boats passed in the course of long, peaceful lazy days. Lodging is simple but comfortable and spacious and the air conditioners worked efficiently. But the magic of this place is the location, the uncrowded sense of isolation, the warmth of the staff, and some of the best meals you’ll eat in Sicily prepared by a Rome-trained gourmet chef and served in the lovely dining room. Seaside dining has its own more casual, Amalfi-coast vibe. Early-morning yoga at the beach is followed by games for children, also seaside, and entertainment at night in the resort amphitheater, so couples and families can park and stay within the resort for days with all members of the family entertained. But solitude is easy to find on this property. With a spectacular view of the Aeolian Islands, it’s easy to fall under that Sicilian spell that calls from a rich and storied past and beckons you to sink into its timeless beauty. I suggest doing just that at Villa Ridente.
