Hotel Centrale Europa

The location of our hotel was amazing it was in Piazza del Duomo and you could see the big fountain from your balcony. The staff was very friendly and welcoming , and every time we would leave the hotel they would greet us and wish us to have a pleasant time on our trip. The room was also very clean and the air condition was needed in the summer time , we had it all the time open. If we ever visit Catania again we would definitely stay there because it was literally in the centre and everything was near us.

Do not stay at this hotel. It was a total dump. I left after two nights even though I had reserved four. First the positives. The location was top notch. It over looked the main square. I loved standing on the balcony and watching all the action. The windows were double pained so noise was not much of a problem. I slept fine with my noise canceling headphones Now the many cons. There was no elevator or air conditioning in the hallways so getting to the rooms was uncomfortable. The doors to the guest rooms opened outwards instead of opening into the room itself. I was unable to leave my room whenever the door to the room adjacent to me was open. The bed was on made an alarming sound anytime I tried to get out of it. The bathroom was not updated at all. It had an ancient florescent light that flickered and buzzed whenever it was turned on. The light switch was located in the shower area. The only thing that separated the water from the switch was a flimsy shower curtain. The bathroom had a distinct sewer smell. The pillow smelled bad. It was filled with an old foam insert wrapped in some kind of batting. The extra blanket was falling apart. The air conditioning was old, noisy and not adjustable. My air conditioner was not adequate to keep me cool at night. My travel partner in the next room was freezing.

The hotel certainly needs to be renovated in its structure and furnishings: there is no elevator and the furniture is dated. The location is excellent for visiting the city center and the setting is quiet nonetheless. I gave the review a 5 for the exceptional kindness of the person we found at the reception: they helped us solve a booking problem, gave us excellent recommendations for dinner, and proved to be truly helpful and understanding.
