Hotel Villa Fanusa

Terrible experience. Triple room booked for three adults, third bed was a sofa bed, small, thin mattress, and the armrest cover was stained, just as the upholstery of the... was stained. The only chair in the room. Refrigerator not working, very small room with a very high ceiling, so much so that the only air conditioner—which was off when we arrived—took hours and hours to cool it down and make it livable. Inadequate bathroom: sink full of cracks and a shameful shower stall, filthy, and ants on the floor. The large windows in the room had blackout curtains that, however, did not close well at the top, letting light through. In the bathroom, there was only one shower cap and two shower gels for three adults. Breakfast in a tiny, uncomfortable space, fairly varied, but without fresh bread. Furthermore, breakfast started at 8:00, and this slowed us down, making us arrive at the archaeological park of Syracuse—which opens at... 8:30—when it was already hot. The only thing that might have made staying there worthwhile was the pool, which we couldn't use, however, because it closed at 6:00 PM and opened at 10:00 AM. Given the trauma we had with the room and its lack of cleanliness, even though we were tired, we didn't feel like staying there for dinner, but the choice of restaurants nearby is very limited. Unfriendly staff.

To begin with, I do not understand how one can assign 4 stars; it is not justified, nor is the price. Breakfast, no choice. Pool closed at 6 PM (too bad for the vacationers). Pool rented for birthday parties outside of hotel guests, you can hear the music in the room. The wifi only works at the reception. The terrace at the entrance of the reception is dirty. You cannot even sit down. How can one assign 4 stars!!!

After three stays in this "hotel" over the last few years, I decided to spend a few days here again this year because I had been completely satisfied in the past. I already knew the advantages (a quiet oasis in the greenery, a large pool, parking) and the disadvantages of the structure (no elevator, modest breakfast for a supposed 4-star, not monitored 24/7, barking dogs at night), but I had never experienced the nighttime concerts around the pool, of which I was obviously unaware. This year, the experience was very negative. Both Friday and Saturday, private parties were held "entertained" by music until 1:30-2 AM with such loud volume that even with the windows closed, it was impossible to hear the television, let alone sleep! For me, who had chosen the structure for its tranquility, it was really hard to endure, especially in light of the staff's indifference to my complaints. Honestly, I do not think it is right for a hotel to organize nightclub nights for outsiders to the detriment of its guests. I advise anyone wishing to go to this hotel to inform themselves well.
