Villa Cristina

We decided to go there after a long hike on Etna volcano and after the hotel we stayed in, the Villa di paperi, recomamded that place. It's called an "agriturismo", but only has the name... When we arrive, we asked to eat on the terrace, we had a rude "no" as answer, because it had rained early, she said... ok well, the nonna won't be smiling but that's fine, my sicilian grandma behaves the same, part of the Sicilian charm I guess. We've been told there was no menu. You just eat what the nonna puts on the table. And that's fine, my family is Italian and we know those kind of places and they're my favorite. You discover dishes and you leave always full. Not the case here. That way more a joke, honestly I can believe that ever happened. We had antipasti: ricotta with egg, eggplant with carrot and pepperoni. We then had a plate of pasta with tomato sauce and then a plate with a piece of meat, thin as hell. We had not more than ten fries each, and vegetables. Finally, a cup of ice cream. For 25€ each. So a total of 55€ because we had a beer and a bottle of water. In Italy... In Taormima, a touristic place where everything is more expensive, we paid 62€ for two plates of fish, a side dish, wine, beer, water and coffee. In Noto, we ate in a steakhouse on the main road, we had two huge beef steak with sides, sauces, wine, beer, water and coffee for 57€. And finally in Trapani, in a REAL agriturismo, we had a huuuuge antipasti with at least ten different elements, a huuuuge pizza (50cm), beer, wine, coffees, water for 42€. See the problem? For me, what's going on there is a scam, a joke, and very disrespectful towards guests. (We learned after that the hotel that recommanded the place is owned by the same family...) Never go there, it's like throwing money out of the window. One good thing though, was not disgusting. But we were still hungry when we left.

Dinner is abundant so you need to come with a good appetite. The price for the fixed menu of €25 included everything, even drinks. We're not heavy drinkers, but it's a surprising change from copperta, etc.

We ate here most nights have to agree with last reviews great food wonderfully cooked. Scillian cooking at its best I can't pick out anthing in particular as it was all so good wonderful tomato sauces on the pasta, lovely lasagne and the meat and fish dishes and of course the lovely desserts. Thank you to Federicka (hopefully I've spelt it right) mama and papa and not forgetting Bella and Gypsy for making a wonderful holiday even better. ps I wish I could take mama home with me.
