Agriturismo Vultaggio

We had a fantastic stay at agriturismo Vultaggio. We stayed 4 nights in the glamping tent Cedro with a beautiful view of the sea and islands. The glamping was very well equipped with everything you can imagine. The air conditioning worked well, so it was pleasantly cool inside the tent. We are staying with his 2 in the tent, but the tent is very spacious and offers sleeping places for 6 people. The food (both breakfast and dinner) is very tasty. It is extensive and fresh. The staff is super nice and helpful. The pool is very clean and nice. Overall a huge recommendation for a nice spot in nature with a lovely environment where there is a lot to see and do. The agriturismo is popular for parties and celebrations. On some evenings during our stay, we could enjoy the music. This stopped at a very acceptable time, so no problem for us!

Agriturismo not very far from Trapani and Marsala, the location surrounded by greenery is very nice. We had dinner two nights and both times everything was truly good. The menu offers many Sicilian specialties and a truly significant wine list. I highly recommend trying it.

Unfortunately our stay here was ruined by witnessing serious animal welfare/cruelty. During our stay we were told there’s some farm animals on site. When we went for a walk we found the pens/cages next to the main car park, situation next to a shooting range. The birds were in bare, small enclosures with dirty water, some with no visible access to food and nothing in their inclosure for them to exhibit natural behaviours or have any stimulation. One of the geese had a visible injury and was pacing around its pen constantly with an empty water feature. There were also trapped wild birds in the chickens enclosure and it was left like this for the week. The worst part of this was the enclosure with old, rusty, small cages lined up and rabbits in each of them with nothing in their cages except a bowl of dirty water (if it had any water in at all). The position of some of the cages meant the rabbits would be in direct sun in the extreme heat. There was also goats, sheep and other animals in a small enclosure at the top. Upon seeing this I reached out to animal rights organisations and animal volunteers locally. They advised me to record what I have seen and report this to the local authority. One of the animal volunteers called the owner and in his words said they must provide food and water for all the animals. He said the owner had said they didn’t have any because he was busy but he’ll fix it straight away. I checked every day on my stay and documented it with pictures, the water stayed dirty every day and the animals continued to be in the same condition. I asked about the animal tour which is advertised on the website and I was told this is only for school children not guests. When I emailed I was told that the food and drink is changed 3 times a day. This did not happen in the week I was there as I made sure to record the conditions daily. They said if I had asked they would have explained this to me, they had been notified about the conditions on the first day by the volunteer and I could see for myself that no explanation could be given for how these animals were treated. It is clearly something that has been going on a long time. As well as this they said they were in cages due to fox’s etc which was not the reason for my complaint. This did not justify the conditions the animals where in, they should have access to clean water, food and enrichment instead of pacing about their cages with nothing to do in extreme heat. It is a shame as the staff were really helpful and the dogs and cats appeared to be looked after and given food. I have urged them to improve the animal welfare for all the animals urgently. I can’t stop thinking about those poor, terrified rabbits, sat in small cages with no clean water and food. The gunshots could be heard from miles away so I can’t imagine how they feel right next to it. As long as they are on the menu I guess they will justify having them treated like this, for the sake of two dishes for guests to choose from. Overall, I’ve ended up spending more time reporting and trying to bring visibility to the animals situations so that something can be changed for them. If anyone is staying here I would urge you to do the same until the animals are looked after properly.
