Best Western Select Hotel

The room was very ample but the entrance door wouldn't close well from the inside and therefore I had to sleep with a chair behind the door. The bathroom sink was clogged and the shower door positioned in such a way that only a very skinny person could bet inside the shower. The receptionist wasn't particularly friendly and seemed not very interested in my pre-departure suggestions. The price is very good and the hotel is very close to the Opera House.

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. The front desk employee was very rude and unhelpful. There is no airport shuttle, the toilet did not flush (I had to use the trash can to pour water down it to get it to empty) the shower nozzle fell off the wall, the phone cord just went to an empty hole in the wall, you could feel the springs in the bed, they charge you 40euro more if you arrive after 6pm. When I asked to get help fixing the toilet the front desk worker said sarcastically, "I doubt the maintenance guy will come and what do you expect you paid 37euro for your room." Well I do expect a working toilet. Don't stay here even if it's the only option in Florence, go to a different town.

I wrote the below review on booking.com. In response, the hotel tried to take a €30 extra cleaning charge for the kitchenette (that we did not use, as we could not use). Thankfully, my bank blocked the transaction as fraudulent. Booking.com review (6/10) You get what you pay for, and we got this for a discounted rate (or so we thought, there was an additional cost for my 10 year old, which racked up the cost nearly double). They confirmed our check-in time... then the room wasn't ready. The air con works a treat... but you hear every cog moving around to power it. Great kitchenette... with no appliances so it's useless. Nice and clean - location is a 20 min walk from the centre. The manager clearly didn't like the review, hence attempting to debit my card without authorisation. Appalling behaviour. Honestly, lots of other choice out there and good service, with a smile doesn't cost any extra.
