The B&B Casa di Barbano is a charming small bed and breakfast (7 rooms). It's a bit vintage in terms of decor, but that has its charm. The location in Via di Barbano, not far from the train station, is ideal for tourists: Many sights, restaurants, shops etc. are within walking distance. Buses and trams also stop nearby. Of course, around the corner there are nice restaurants, cafes and supermarkets.
We had chosen this B&B because it is very centrally located, well rated and air conditioned and also because we had found a very good early bird offer on the homepage.
Our room was large enough, clean and also quite quiet. The allergy-friendly floor also suited us very well. Although the bathroom was a bit smaller, but that did not bother us.
The breakfast was typical Italian, but perfectly adequate for us. Also the room cleaning was fine. The owner and her staff were always friendly and helpful.
Rooms are air conditioned, which is very important in summer. The air conditioning is efficient and almost silent. Unfortunately, however, we had some bad luck with the air conditioning, which failed on three of our seven days. Although the owner has tried very hard to remedy this, it has also become more difficult with the craftsmen in Italy. Fortunately, though, it had cooled down a bit, especially at night, so it wasn't too bad. A free in-room safe and free, fast Wi-Fi for guests are also available. There was a problem with the wifi, but with a little trick we always had access. Hair dryer and refrigerator rounded off the decor. We particularly liked the small outdoor seat. Here you can have breakfast or just chill out a bit.
All in all we can really recommend the B&B despite the technical problems mentioned, especially as the owner has granted us a reasonable discount on the room rate. Florence itself, of course, we really liked. It is a great city with countless sights. Since we are already a little older, we have travelled longer distances in the city by bus, which is completely unproblematic. We also took a day trip to Siena by train. We also liked Siena very much.
Finally, a word on the price: We had booked as I said at the B&B directly: 644 € (7 nights, 2 people in a double room with breakfast plus tourist tax): a very reasonable price, on which we got a reasonable discount because of the technical problems.
