Casa Schlatter

I have had the special opportunity of renting Casa Schlatter during my three month stay in Florence. This historic Bed and Breakfast is an excellent spot to discover all of Florence. The proximity from the historic downtown is only a 30 minute easy walk, and even better, you are just an 8 minute walk to the nearest train station, Firenze Campo di Marti. The hotel is comfortable and the owner/operator, Alessandra, is kind and conscientious of her guests. The back garden, even in winter, is a particular plus. I am here in the off season, so it is not busy in general, but I can only imagine what peace staying at Casa Schlatter could be in the busy high season. Staying just outside the historic center is peaceful and the Campo di Marti neighborhood has a charm all of its own with restaurants that are more affordable and delicious than the more formal, expensive albeit delicious options downtown. (If you don't like to walk, the taxis get to Casa Schlatter in moments, so don't worry about being outside the center.) The price for staying here simply cannot be matched for the elegance of your stay. The two front rooms are nicer than the much smaller back room but overall, you will be happy you made the choice to stay here.

The house is very attractive and well-maintained. However, the house was cold and a supplementary heating unit in the largest bedroom never worked in spite of reassurance from the owner that it was being fixed over the 5 weeks we were there. Once the central heating was turned on in November, it was still cold. In addition, as part of the instructions to the renters, we were directed to several breaker boxes to get the electrictiy going after overloading the system by turning on the dishwasher. An Italian friend told us that the problem is the owner was requesting too little power from the electric utility.

Former artist's studio house about 20 min walk/15 min bus ride from centro storico owned by his great-grand daughter lovely Alessandra who was a fund of info. Really charming with huge studio windows and three rooms, inc one with mezzanine, good for a family. Defo going back.
