The street outside was narrow and graffiti filled. On the cab ride over the driver warned us 3 times to be careful. The room itself was ok, there was 2 of us and only 1 bath towel. Taking a shower was dangerous, the tub was so slippery. We stayed 1 one (out of 4) left the next morning to a different hotel.

We booked a three-night stay at Guest House Morandi and had a very positive experience. First, the hotel accommodated our early mid-morning arrival and honored our room type request with a delightful terrace. Our room was very comfortable and clean and serviced daily. The location is great, within walking distance of major sites, yet also out of the away on a quiet street. There are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but there are several within a 5 to 10 minute walk (the area between Piazza di San Marco and Piazza della Libertà). There is no breakfast but the hotel provides discount coupons for full breakfast buffet at a hotel near the Duomo. I have to say though that the star of Guest House Morandi is the host Dario. I have never met a more friendly, helpful host. He sat with us and walked through a map with his recommendations on sites and restaurants, as well as sketchy areas to avoid. He was very helpful with requests and with transportation to/from a concert. One thing though to watch. Google and TripAdvisor will return photos of beautiful public spaces and staircases that we did not see at the hotel. The pictures are old and those spaces do not exist today, maybe because of renovation. I found that confusing. Nonetheless, we would stay here again.

While the room was quiet at night for sleeping, and Dario at the reception desk was very helpful, the price was closer to what we paid for our 4 star hotel in Rome. It had a beautiful room, full made to order breakfast, terrace and common areas and great staff. At Guest House, there was no breakfast or even a coffee machine in our room at the Guest house and the lobby coffee machine was out for repairs. Our room was adequate but nothing special. Would choose a different hotel for the price next time in Florence.
