We had a really lovely stay at Hotel Reale and would definitely recommend it. The hotel is clearly family-run and has lots of character and original features. We loved our bedroom with its original wooden floor and high ceilings. The bathroom was slightly dated but extremely clean and perfectly serviceable. Both the air conditioning and ceiling fan worked brilliantly, which was very welcome during a heatwave! A special mention has to go to Angela on reception, who was absolutely amazing and a real credit to the hotel. She recommended restaurants and places to visit, helped us with train tickets and bookings, made phone calls for us and was always incredibly friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The location is excellent, only around five or six minutes’ walk from the train station and with some fantastic restaurants right on the doorstep. We also received free tickets for the funicular up to Montecatini Alto, where there happened to be a festival taking place. It was one of the highlights of our trip. The small pool area was lovely, clean and had plenty of places to sit or lie down. Amazingly, on two separate days we had the whole pool to ourselves! My only real criticism was the half-board food. We only ate the evening meal once as we found it quite basic, and at breakfast food wasn’t always replenished quickly enough after earlier guests. However, the lunches we ordered separately around the pool — including club sandwiches and salads — were excellent, as were the cocktails and drinks. Some areas of the hotel are a little dated, particularly some of the furniture and an old computer-desk area on the stairs which could be put to much better use. A few simple updates would really lift the hotel without losing the wonderful character of the original building. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would happily return. Next time we would simply choose bed and breakfast and enjoy the many excellent restaurants nearby. Most importantly, thank you to Angela for helping to make our stay so enjoyable!

We stayed at this hotel fir 4 nights. It was a great room with a large terrace/balcony. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The location is close to the train station and center with plenty of options of restaurants. The hotel has a pool which we used every day after sight seeing. It is convenient for going to Florence and Lucca. Breakfast is great too. The only couple of things I was disappointed with was the optional funicular and wine tasting event we booked and other guests staying up past midnight drinking and being really loud. The wine tasting was a taste of one white and one red with a couple if snacks. Not value for money.

Prime location, rooms a bit dated but beds very comfortable. Breakfast service organization a bit slow and breakfasts quickly run out of everything when there are groups. The staff is super friendly, and the terrace lounges are top-notch. Having done this job in large hotels for 35 years, I think they are currently at the beginning of their progress.
