Royal Victoria Hotel Pisa

After staying here each year for several years I discovered that on the last Saturday of June there is a pageant passes by which is fantastic. SO last year I booked a room with a balcony overlooking the said pageant only to be told when I checked in several months later that there had been a double booking and that I was offered an inferior room "ah well" things happen. SO this year I booked in January with confirmation that I would get what I so desired. NO NO NO ! it happened again, same excuse and so unbelievable. Staff in my mind are totally underhanded and not to be trusted. Needless to say I will not be going back there.

The hotel is old. But like all the buildings in the center of Pisa. The location is perfect. 10 minutes from the Tower and 10 minutes from the train station. The service is friendly. At breakfast there is little variety, but it is sufficient. They should keep children in mind and provide Cola Cao or something similar. As well as decaf. The elevator is small, something to keep in mind for those traveling with small children in strollers. It is a hotel with character.

We stayed for one night in this historic hotel. We found the location, the welcome, and the breakfast to be positive. The hotel needs a major renovation; in the room, there were obvious spots on the wall with peeling plaster, the furniture was unstable, and the bathroom faucets were full of limescale. I didn't look too closely at the cleanliness, but the linens were clean. The most serious issue was that we had expressly requested a room with air conditioning, which they had confirmed for me, but we found an old, non-functioning unit that would shut off after a few minutes and a fan. They justified it by saying the building is old and they are unable to install proper air conditioners, but that is no excuse... In fact... if there was a fan, it means they were aware that the air conditioner wouldn't work... in the end, we didn't sleep a wink with 31 degrees in the room and the fan on. Terrible experience... never again!
