La Petite Maison

We were very excited about this hotel booking in Viareggio. Although the hosts did not speak too much English, we seemed to understand each other through mimics and google translate. We booked a small room and seemed nice, however quite dark, and most importantly, it had an unpleasant smell from the bathroom, once we turned on the water on the bathroom sink. It could have been smell from the tubes, but was still unpleasant and the smell got into the entire room. The host proposed to solve this with a air freshener, but that was not enough, so we wanted to change the room. The second room was also small, according to our booking, but still even darker than the first one, with both balcony and window not facing directly outside. The bathroom was so small that you could barely sit on the toilette and the shower was not very well designed, as a large quantity of water flooded the entire bathroom floor after just a small shower. Bed mattress was really hard and we had back pains in the morning, while cleanliness was not the best - a lot of dust under the shabby shick lamps and not so pleasant smell from the wardrobes. In the morning we asked to leave the property, since we did not want to spend the rest 7 nights in this atmosphere. Unfortunately, the hosts were a bit hostile and seemed not to understand our complaints, saying that these were little things. However, sometimes little things can mean much more than you think. I am not saying the property is bad, we asked some guests at that time and they seemed to enjoy the rooms and amenities (they booked larger rooms) I am just explaining our experience and not recommending the small rooms, if you are a person who loves light and comfort in a room. If you are just there to enjoy the beach and are not so sensitive to where you sleep, that the choice is perfectly fine. Around 7 minutes to the beach, and close to the train station. However, you can find cheaper alternatives at 2 start villas/hotels, with a greater comfort!

Property looks old and dirty , but the worst thing is the very rude Owner . This “ gentleman “ has no idea how to treat clients and after we decided to leave the property as it was not as advertised on booking.com ( we informed booking) and as it has more than 20steeep stairs to arrive at the rooms ( is not mentioned anywhere) the owner insulted us in every way . Unfortunately this are the people that ruin the b&b market, if you are tired of your job and you “hate” the world is better not to deal with public.

Well within budget and for the price you wouldn't need anything more. This is a lovely guesthouse, approx 130 years old and full of character. The couple who run it, are very welcoming and friendly. They do not speak much English, which is good for me - it makes the visit more authentic, traditional and very Italian. I would highly recommend this place.
