Hotel Cavallino Blu

The hotel itself is very nice and it happens to be in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in Tuscany. Unluckily, the customer service is appalling. The owner seems to ignore the most basic hospitality etiquette. She is far from welcoming or friendly and seems constantly irritated. The hot water wasn't working and when we raised the problem she said that we were probably not doing it right, without offering to check or apologising. The two of us were not able to have a hot shower, despite trying for a good hour all the possible combinations to prompt the hot water. At the checkout, I explained the problem and said that I had tried to look for someone at 7.30 in the morning but no one was in sight. The owner said they had been having problems with the hot water for about three days - which was not mentioned the night before or at the moment of the booking - At no point did she apologise or showed the will to rectify the situation. I was calmly saying that I wanted a little recognition for the inconvenience and a discount, given that one pays €80 for one night thinking to be able to take a shower. She did not sympathise with me whatsoever and acted very annoyed despite my clear intentions to pay fairly for the room and breakfast. This is a shame because the place is very nice and would have loved to go back.

Absolutely loved it Super friendly staff, absolutely gorgeous rooms, good breakfast and perfect location, 5 min away from a very pretty town Volterra. The owners made us feel very much at Home. Property has lots of land too, also has free parking ... Can only recommend staying there!

This hotel is charming, LInda, Mama, Lorenzo and family can't do enough to make your stay a wonderful experience. The decor is typical Italian country house with amazing views over the Tuscan hills and we loved it. The bed was extremelly comfortable, tea making facilities in the room, pool towels, everything you needed to make your stay enjoyable. You were spoilt for choice with the dishes set out for breakfast and for evening meals Mama cooked whatever we asked for and it was delicious (her Chicken BBQ is mouthwatering), nothing was too much trouble. Everything was clean and the towels were so soft (not hard and over used like some hotels we have stayed in). You do need a car though as it is 3km outside Volterra, too far to walk! Staying in this hotel you get authentic Italian living with delightful hosts. Thank you Linda and family for all your kindness and making our holiday special.
