Dante’s inferno in Venezia! I’ve been to Venice a dozen and a half times and I’ve never stayed in a ‘room’ or rather a dungeon like this one before. Dark, dingy, depressing, dire! Now, I know it’s a ‘standard’ room (as I was reminded by the guy on reception) who also reminded me that ‘I couldn’t expect a luxury suite’, but I’ve stayed in many standard or economy rooms before and none of these have been of such a poor standard. If half stars were available on Tripadvisor this would be a 1.5 star review! As I write this review I am really struggling to find positive comments but it’s really difficult to do. My ‘cell’ was very dim and dreary even with the lights on and I had to plug a key into the wall to turn on the electricity. I had an extremely narrow (2.5ft) bed, more suitable for a child transitioning from a toddler bed and a tiny (6ft x 2.5ft) bathroom at the end of the corridor which resembled a sanatorium. My view from the window was of a woman on her laptop in an office opposite the hotel. Breakfast was basic and I only discovered on my last morning that freshly prepared coffees were available. They kept that very quiet! The very limited positives included an attractive breakfast room and that it was equidistant (10 mins) from St Mark’s Square or Rialto. I’ve stayed at this hotel about a decade ago and since then it has declined significantly. My room shouldn’t be available for guests - it was so depressing. I was glad to leave……not Venice… this hotel!

Hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of San Marco with everything perfectly walkable. Hotel staff were absolutely fantastic. Room was spacious and comfortable and breakfast was excellent.

Super location and friendly staff. Effective air conditioning in the room. Easy to find when you come with the water bus. The hotel is very strict on that room key must be laid in a bowl on the reception counter every time you go out. Don't take it out! They justify this by organizing and locking the front door at night. Very stupid that there was no staff to the place when we returned to the hotel at about 22 a.m. There was no one to find and we had to go in behind the front desk to pick up the key to our room. There were also keys to all rooms available. This is too bad!
