Fontana Hotel (Centre)

A lovely family run hotel. We have stayed here a few times now over the last 9 years and are always looked after by the Stainer Family. The hotel is centrally located near San Zaccaria and just a 5 minute walk to St Mark’s Square. Large spacious rooms and a hearty breakfast.

Amazing location and friendly service. While it may not be a luxury hotel with a lot of amenities, it is good for the price. Also, I have to say that we found Gabriele to be very friendly. Actually, we found everyone there to be kind and helpful. It is a five minute walk to the Doge Palace and St. Mark's Basilica, which was a blessing since they water taxi's were on strike while we were there. It's a bargain.

A hotel that is unique despite the building being over 300 years old. No key cards here just regular keys hanging in reception. Leave them when you leave and pick them up on return. Great location and easy walking distance to all that Venice has to offer. I noticed a lot of locals live in the area and become colleagues when eating at the nearby restaurants and small cafes. The rooms seem dated but somehow the ambience make them acceptable to all. All rooms have AC along with windows and shutters. Uniqueness doesn't allow comparisons with modern hotels so it's not worth getting yourself into a lather trying to do so. Over friendly staff willing to give all information on local transportation and a host of other subjects commonly asked by the lost tourist. Enter the doors with an open mind and leave almost as a true local.
