Hotel e Residenza San Maurizio has a nice location in Venice, within easy walking distance of a boat dock, major attractions, restaurants, bars, and gelaterias. The neighborhood itself is one of the hotel’s strongest features, with plenty of dining options nearby and a great atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the accommodations and service did not meet expectations, especially considering the price point.
We booked a triple room, which was a good size and had views of the side street. The bathroom was clean and acceptable, but the shower setup was inconvenient—the shower only had a handheld attachment, and there was no shower door in the tub area. This caused water to get onto the floor, which became extremely slippery when wet. Guests should use caution to avoid slipping. We were also disappointed that only one full bath towel per guest was provided, even after requesting additional towels.
Although the beds had clean sheets, the bedding coverings and overall furnishings felt old and dated. The rooms themselves lacked sufficient electrical outlets for charging modern electronics, and the single bed appeared somewhat misshapen.
The biggest issue was accessibility and communication. There is no elevator, and our room was located two floors above the reception area. Despite the front desk attendant knowing we had heavy luggage, no assistance was offered with carrying bags upstairs.
Additionally, the hotel’s main entrance was closed due to significant renovation work. While instructions were provided for the alternate entrance, they were confusing, and the route required walking through a dark alleyway that smelled strongly of urine. We were not notified that the main entrance would be unavailable, which would have been helpful information when booking.
On the positive side, the air conditioning worked very well, and the large windows with curtains helped block out street noise. We slept both nights comfortably, which was a pleasant surprise given the central location.
Overall, while the location is within easy walking distance of many things, other hotels in the same price range nearby offer better facilities, easier access, and a more comfortable guest experience.

Access - we arrived late and the main door was closed due to renovation - however good instructions were provided by the hotel.
Room - we booked a suite for 2 adults and 2 kids. Room was very big with 2 small balconies and nice views of the street and square. Bathroom was excellent but be careful of the tiles that are slippery when wet.
The air con is perfect and the windows are high quality meaning little to no street noise which meant we had long sleeps both nights.
Location - easy walking distance to main attractions. The area directly around the hotel is really good for drinks and dinner
Staff were friendly and helpful with good English.
Overall - we were very happy with this hotel

I visited hotel residenza san maurizio in May with my 2 cousins while doing a 6 week tour of Europe, it was the worst place we stayed on our whole trip.
We woke up at 4am itching, the walls were filthy and damp and the sheets were covered in dust leaving us with hay fever type symptoms.
Also the room you see on the website that you book will NOT be like the room they assign you. It will be vastly inferior, very misleading. Venice is amazing don't spoil your trip by staying here. Location is good for this it gets 1 star
