I am writing this review as we hope it will improve the conditions for future guests, as we were severely disappointed. My husband and I booked our stay here for three days, and arrived on a Wednesday (20th). The business let us know the day of that their restaurant was closed, so the staff at the restaurant next door would be helping us check in. Not the worst problem, but it was a bit odd having a random person get us settled in. The lady was very polite though she didn’t have any extra information for us other that where our room was, (which makes sense as it’s not her business) it was nothing bad it was just a bit odd that they didn’t have their own staff there to welcome us. We should also note this is not a traditional hotel, it was more of an apartment (no front desk etc.) Once we got inside, it was quite shocking how different the room and bathroom are from the photos. As this is listed as a 3-star hotel, you’d expect a beautiful feel and quality to the room, though it was much more of a dorm room kind of feel, and was extremely basic. Our main concerns occurred when I went into the bathroom and the smell from the shower drain was very strong (sewage/old drain odour) and the black mould along the bottom of the shower and the shower tile were an instant indicator to us that this was not a top quality spot. Please see the photos for some of the mould, and again for the listing photo where it shows the shower as “spotless”. Please bleach or re-caulk the shower..!! Looking around further, the pump on the soap bottle was dirty, there was a strong musty smell from the twin bed (we booked the triple room), the clear plastic chairs had dried bits of what looked like chocolate/dark brown spots, and the sconces were FILLED with dust. The sconces were also 5ft off the ground on the wall, not way up high, so they were very easy to look into (and would be so easy to clean.) My husband is 6ft tall, and he could also see the top of the wardrobe was covered in dust. Maybe not the biggest issue as he’s tall so most people may not notice, but again it would be quite easy to clean and it was filthy. We both sat on the bed, and that was another strong indicator that this was not a top quality hotel by any means! It was a sofa bed-style mattress - you know when you sit, and all four corners of the bed rise up? It was that thin and soft. There was also a smell to the green blanket. I’m sad to say that we were extremely disappointed with the room, so much so that we went right back to the waitress next door to give back the keys. My husband and I have stayed in quite a few not-so-great places, honestly we’re not that picky, but when it’s not clean and smells strongly, that’s where we draw the line. After seeing this room we were both astounded at how many great reviews there are for it, as it just doesn’t make sense. There is no way it deserves 3-stars, I’m really not trying to be rude but there’s just no way. There were more dirty details about the room that we’ve left out as this review is just getting too long.
We messaged the owners right away to explain the situation and ask for a refund, though they denied us that request. That was disheartening as not only did we feel misled by their listing, but basic cleanliness wouldn’t allow for black mould, dust and strong odours (among other issues).
Thankfully we found an actual top-quality hotel nearby that was fantastic (albeit very expensive, last minute in Venice..) but was much more deserving of our money. It’s truly disheartening that they wouldn’t refund us and that we couldn’t see any of their staff in person to explain the situation. We would absolutely not recommend.
