Toyoko Inn Koriyama

On weekdays, I decided to stay at a hotel near Koriyama Station. There are apparently more than ten hotels around here. I wasn't sure where to find it. A few years ago, I had stayed at the Toyoko Inn in Hiroshima, Nagoya. So I knew what the Toyoko Inn was like, with its accommodation and service. Though I was not sure, I eventually chose Koriyama, a safe Toyoko Inn 45-year-old, as my accommodation. Even without reservation, the room seemed to be very empty, so I could check in easily. The good thing about Koriyama is that he's not noisy. A few years ago, I stayed at the Toyoko Inn in Hiroshima and Nagoya, and from the next room, I could hear the sound of showers and other things flourishing. The hotel, on the other hand, sleeps comfortably at night, with only a few noises from other guests. The bad thing was breakfast. The cooking is terrible. There were some hard spots in the rice, so maybe there wasn't enough water. For breakfast, I'd rather have side dishes, soup, and drinks, so this rice is a shame.

I've stayed in Toyoko Inns before, and I got exactly what I expected-- a small (very, but no problem for me-- and there is extra luggage space if necessary), clean, very functional business hotel. The wifi was good (and having stayed at different Toyoko Inns my phone/tablet automatically connected), service was fine-- they handled busy check in/out and breakfast times nicely and efficiently, and, to my surprise, they had a sauna. It didn't look very inviting, tucked away next to the elevators and vending machines, but it was really ok. There were baskets for your clothes, a safety box for valuables, 3 showers (and 3 wicker seats in front of a big mirror/sinks, equipped with a hair dryer) and the sauna itself-- HOT! Definitely bring a bath towel-- you'll need to sit on something. The only negative aspect of the hotel is location. It's about 10 minutes from the JR station (traffic lights seem long in Koriyama), but there is a shuttle bus during peak times. Actually the walk didn't bother me a bit, but the hotel is kind of hiding on a side street, and surrounded by... nothing. Even the nearest convenience store is about 5 minutes away-- not a huge hardship, but rare in Japan. At least you can go there to stock your empty in-room fridge, if you'd rather not use the (very reasonably priced) vending machines. A couple more points: breakfast was, not unexpectedly, Japanese, but the coffee and orange juice were fine. I was also happy to see eggs and bread, and... some kind of meatball. Anyway the breakfast staff handled that busy time with good cheer. As for English, you can probably communicate well enough-- a taxi was called for me (as I said this hotel is off the main street), and the girl helpfully told me "5 minutes." For those needing more detailed information in English I recommend the tourist office at the station (2F, near Starbucks). All things considered, I would definitely recommend this Toyoko Inn for those needing simple accommodation in Koriyama.

Stayed one night and found the place a distance from the JR station. The hotel is a standard Toyoko Inn with efficient staff and clean rooms. WIFI great in room and there is a shuttle to the JR station. There are restaurants nearby but I did not try any. Would stay again.
