Kusatsu Onsen Gensen Ichinoyu

The exterior is impressive, but the interior is terrible. This is an old inn that has been renovated, but the bathroom is still like an old inn. The toilet smells awful in the room. Maybe because they circulate the air, the toilet smell drifted throughout the room and I couldn't sleep. The walls are thin, so you can hear the voices next door, the door slamming, and the toilet next door, which was unpleasant. You can also hear the footsteps on the floor above. The large bath is just a large changing room, and the bathtub is small, so it's not relaxing. I don't recommend this place to anyone hoping for a Kusatsu Onsen experience. Don't go to this inn based on the photos on social media. I'll never go again.

A fantastic hotel. I had the Family Loft (2 queen beds & 2 single beds) with a mini kitchenette and private onsen bath. Spacious rooms with a large couch for watching tv. Room was thoughtful and spotless, with little bags provided for you to place towels etc as you make your way to Yubatake for a foot soak. Hotel is a 5 minute (or less) walk from Yubatake, and about 8 minutes walk from the Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal. 2 nights seemed way too short, wish we stayed longer. Hotel has washer dryer for paid use - 100 yen for detergent (via a dispenser), 300 yen for a 30 minute wash and 600 yen for a 1 hour dryer.

5 stars!! Very good experience and really enjoyed our stay! We were greeted by their friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is very beautifully designed, modern and clean. The rooms were very very clean and big too. There is a foot bath in the compound, free drinks too! It feels like I’m in a resort. The in room onsen was awesome. The public bath is quite average but the onsen water was good. The location of this hotel is quite near Yubatake, about 5 minutes walk. Breakfast was pretty average, just one plate of small dishes. The only downside is that there is no parking available and the road to the hotel is very narrow.
