We stayed on the executive floor. We had requested a room in advance that was close to the elevator, but we were taken to the furthest room. There was no explanation from the hotel about the failure to respond to the advance request. The executive lounge looked like this. There were also plenty of delicious baked goods, ice cream and drinks.

We chose Sapporo Grand Hotel because it has i) family room that can fit 4 beds, ii) direct access to the underground walkway and Sapporo Station, iii) its own dedicated private parking. The hotel outperformed on all these and more. I was most impressed with the spaciousness of the room. Not only can it fit 4 beds comfortably, it is also the first room I had ever occupied that can fit 4 chairs and a table! It also has a separate foyer, lots of wardrobe space and well equipped bathroom. It absolutely houses our family of 4 comfortably for 2 nights. It was also spotlessly cleaned. Breakfast was lovely too with sufficient variety and quality. The breads were particularly lovely and there are 9 different types of honey to choose from. The staff were also super efficient. They managed to deliver my packages easily. The hotel itself is full of old world charm, but not short on modern comforts. I would stay here again on my future visits to Sapporo.

As the name suggests, this is a long-established luxury hotel in central Sapporo, close to Sapporo station with easy access to all the major sights. You can even get between the hotel and the station without setting foot outdoors, especially helpful in winter. My room was spacious and comfortable, staff were very helpful and I had excellent sleep. That alone is more than enough for me to recommend this hotel. Even though the hotel is old, the room I stayed in (an Executive Floor Double) felt quite modern; it seems it had been newly renovated. I did have an issue with a restaurant on-site, the "Northern Terrace Diner", which didn't align with the rest of the hotel in terms of comfort or luxury - it had a distinctly cheap feeling to it and I left feeling quite underwhelmed. If your stay includes access to the "Grand in Grand" executive lounge (which I recommend!) - don't bother also paying for breakfast at the "Diner", the lounge also serves it and it is better by far.
