Sounkyo Choyo Resort Hotel

From January 14, I traveled to Chaoyang Resort Hotel for two days and one night by shuttle bus. We arrived safely at the hotel at 16:45, although the highway was partially closed due to the stormy weather from the previous day. It was about an hour until dinner, but I went to the Viking after taking a hot spring. Group guests still had a chance to choose before they arrived. The good dishes were live beef steak and Freshly fried lotus root tempura, sautéed duck. The alcohol was free for 60 minutes, so my wife and mother-in-law had beer. For self, ask the staff to teach you how to do it I had 5 cups and it felt good. I also ate the self-baked Genghis Khan, which I prepared in the video. The sashimi was disappointing because there were chopped tuna and salmon, but no scallops. It was an hour but I was full. When my wife told me that she saw a deer in the open-air bath, I went there the next day and was surprised to see a deer appear near one meter, but I was relieved to see it in nature. My wife called the front desk. The reply was that he would not harm me. We had two Japanese-style rooms, but we had chairs, but I wish we had chairs. My wife said I couldn't see my toothbrush again. I slept on the sixth floor with the electric stove on. It was nice to have two litres of water in the fridge. Breakfast is from 8am and the bus is at 9:10am, so I ate quickly. It was probably seven o'clock for the group guests. One of the things that caught my attention was that foreigners were seen taking home coffee in plastic bottles and water bottles here and there, but I was sorry that I couldn't help but be careful. Overall, the trip was so satisfying that I wanted to take my own car around the hot springs when the snow melted.

The outermost hotel in Sounkyo. There is a reasonable distance from the bus terminal. Due to the consecutive holidays, I was concerned about the congestion of buffets and other events, but because of the dispersal of dining venues, I was able to relax.

Our stay at Choyo Resort Hotel, unfortunately, didn’t fully meet our expectations, especially in terms of value for money. While the staff were friendly and did their best to assist us, there were several issues that significantly impacted our experience. The room had a strong musty smell, and one we were offered smelled clearly of cigarette smoke, despite being a non-smoking room. The air conditioning in our final room wasn’t working, which made it very difficult to sleep in the hot summer temperatures. The onsen area also raised concerns, as the ceiling was visibly affected by mold, which made it hard to feel comfortable using the facility. We truly appreciated the hospitality of the staff, but some of the issues seem to be more structural or related to general maintenance, and couldn’t be resolved during our short stay. With some improvements in cleanliness and upkeep, this hotel could offer a much better experience. For now, however, we would be cautious about recommending it at the current standard.
